Breathe

“Breathe.”  The figure on the ground’s eyes flew open. He was in a white space, limitless, as far as he could tell. He sat up and gazed at the child in front of him.
“Where am I?” He asked the child.
“We can be wherever you want.” She replied in a high, tinged voice.  Grass rippled along the floor until it reached the ends of the earth as far as he could tell. The girl ripped up and handful and tossed them into the air. “So, who am I?” he asked. The girl in front of him giggled, as if finding the question funny.  “You are whoever you want to be!” She said excitedly.  The man thought for a while.  Quinten.  That’s what he would call himself.  “Quinten.” He said aloud.
“Hello Quinten!” She said. She giggled again. “What a curious name!” Quinten looked at her curiously. “So, who are you?”
She giggled again. “Whoever you want me to be!” She said as she flew up into the air. She landed and for the first time a hint of seriousness crept into her voice.
“I have a question though.” She said. “Will you be my friend?”
Quinten looked at her curiously. Did this child think he would hurt her? He stood up, walked over the girl, and hugged her head. “Of course I will.”

i will not kill.

A face rose from the black watery depths as the swirly water bubbled and churned. Thunder cracked overhead and it struck the land not two feet away.
“Beware of lightning.” A robotic and irritatingly loud voice said from somewhere.
“Thank you June, I’m well away of that.” An annoyed voice responded. Or would have responded had not the water he was in filled his mouth as he tried to speak.
“Incomprehensible. Please restate.” The face slid back down into the water. A few moments later a sleek body in a wetsuit slid onto the beach like a snake. A few seconds after that, the water he had been floating in was hit by a loud slash of lightning.
Samuel placed a hand on the wall that surrounded the complex he had been assigned to infiltrate. He drew a knife from his belt and plunged it into the wall. A dulled alarm sounded and Samuel smiled. Perfect. He turned and plunged back into the sea. His H.U.D. showed guards rushing to the scene. His night vision setting had been turned up by 25% because of the blackness of the night, but the thunderstorm had been a surprise. Even so it had set the scene. Samuel turned his attention back to the wall just in time to dive down into the depths, before bullets ripped into the water.
“You think he’s dead?” one guard asked.
“no.” the other replied.  “But do you want to go in and find out?” the other guard took the knife and walked around to the gate. Samuel couldn’t hold his breath much longer. He relaxed and closed his eyes. Floating onto the shore he lay barely breathing as though he had been shot. The remaining guard walked toward him slowly and crouched.
“So we did get you, you bas-AH!” he jerked up as Samuel snapped up and grabbed his face and twisted his neck. Samuel left the dead man on the beach, walking away with regret. Every time he had to kill he had regret. He looked back at the dead man with a sad face. Maybe he had a family. A wife, waiting at home with dinner on the table, set for a man never coming home. A son perhaps. A blind son, with no ability to make money himself. And then his wife leaves his son, and the son must make his way in the world… No. No time to reminisce. He had a job to do.
Samuel moved toward a cliff face that made up one of the walls. How ironic. The elements were being mined by these people, and the elements would defeat them. Samuel raised his wrist grapple gun and fired it at the cliff face. It lodged in a crag and Samuel pulled on it. It held. Samuel placed one foot on the rock wall and began the long climb up the mountain. It was a daunting task and Samuel began to work up the mountain slowly. The rocks were unstable and he slipped once or twice.
“Warning. Slate is a fragile rock capable of easy fractures. Extreme caution is advised.” The robotic voice of the heads up display. Samuel closed his eyes as the alarm rang out. Samuel looked down and immediately figured out the sea was not an option. He left his one hand from the cliff face, and using the cable, he swung to the other side seconds before the spotlight flashed where he just was. He breathed slowly, as though the most minute sound would alert the enemy to his presence.
When the spotlight left him, Samuel released his pent up breath and swung back around. As he pulled on the cable again it sprang loose along with the crag it had attached to. The rock flew down along with the hook, scratching Samuel’s arms and back. When the rocks stopped, Samuel looked back down the cliff face to see the cable and hook smashed and mangled at the bottom of the rock face.
He pulled up with his left arm and gasped as pain shot up his arm. He pulled his arm away from the precipice to see a two inch long gash just below his elbow. The blood flowed back down his arm to his shoulder where it dripped down the long fall to the cliff bottom. He groaned as he saw the remaining distance to the top. Without the cable it would be too hard to get up there.
This was it. He had failed. He was too weak to continue, yet it was too far to go back. He would hold on to the overhang until he became too weak to do that, then he would fall down and be smashed on the grass at the base of the wall… no. That wouldn’t happen. Not if he kept trying. Besides, if he did that the fall wouldn’t kill him so he’d be in agony there unless he was lucky enough to be speared by the hook, or shot if the soldiers heard. He would have to go on.
He reached his hand up to the next rock and he gripped it tightly. He pulled upwards, even through the agony of his pain. He reached up and pulled on the next rock. Soon he had a steady rhythm going. He finally reached the top and lay there gasping for breath. He rose his eyes to see the thunder clouds breaking. A bright ray of yellow sunlight broke the grey blackness. Then another broke through, and another. Samuel lifted himself up to his feet and stumbled toward the edge of the cliff and fell again. He just sat there on his knees staring at the sun.
He turned his head and saw the man he had killed laying on the sand. He glanced between that and the sun and the gash on his arm, and in that moment, he swore he would never kill again.

this is just a little piece i did during writer's group so i'd love to know what you think and would love constructive criticism.

story: meet Angela.

Kyle rose form his chair. The night was cool and peaceful. Pepin was already asleep in the next room, but something kept Kyle awake. Kyle couldn’t shake the feeling that something life changing was about to happen. Nevertheless Kyle lay down in the warm bed and soon fell asleep, still unable to shake the fear that gripped his heart.
The next morning Kyle rose to find that Pepin had gone into town to by some supplies. Kyle walked down the stairs to the bar. The Jukebox was playing softly. He ordered a drink and took a large swig, finally relaxed after his fitful dreams. The uneasiness quickly returned, however, when the music stopped following a loud crash that rang out from behind him. Kyle turned to see a burly man lying among the ruins of the jukebox.  A woman was standing next to a table where Kyle guessed the burly man had been sitting a few moments before. She was tall, with somewhat loose jeans and a black sleeveless midriff. There was a crimson sash around her waist with a curved cutlass strapped to it. The picture was completed by a straw hat with a wide brim that was stuck lazily onto her head.
“- and there’s also more where that came from if you try it again.”  She was saying. Then she swaggered up to the counter and pulled up a chair next to Kyle. Kyle turned around and took another swig from his mug.
“I’ll have the usual James.”

Escaping the clones.

Jake bor stood at the edge of the cliff face, struck by indecision. A large group of clone was marching past the Cliff Jake crouched. The troopers had fired on the Jedi, seperating him from his kel dor apprentice. A message had come from the Jedi temple telling all Jedi to return the clones had destroyed jake's fighter and had begun to look for him. It was a horrible situation. Jake leapt toward the roof of the hanger taking down two of the evil troopers. Looking through the glass above the hanger he saw several adiquite ships he could use to get Past the anti-ship guns but he dislitked the large group of troopers. Jake crept back to the edge of the hanger roof where the two guards lay. He woke one and told him to ask for reinforcements. The trooper did so, after which Jake knocked him out. The troopers in the hanger left and Jake jumped into the hanger. He easily evaded the anti-ship guns and headed for the temple.

super america

this is a short story i made based on a thing me and my friend dan did. check back cause it's not done.

Dan bent and removed a gleaming object from the sand. As the sand fell away from it, the item was revealed to be a fragment of an a from a sign. Dan sighed and dropped it and continued to walk. Peter, Dan's "apprentice", followed. a mound of dried dirt rose in the distance with some sparse shrubs on it. As the pair approached the mound peter stuck his hand in a hole.

story

WARNING!
There is swearing in this.

Chapter 1

Under a moonlit sky a lone fishing boat bobbed on the black water. Two silhouettes sat in the boat. One stood rapidly and raising his voice, said “We should kill him now! His continued existence presents a threat to our whole operation.”
“Calm yourself, and you know very well why we can’t.” said the sitting one in a voice almost like honey but for the rough edge on it.
The standing one chuckled. “You believe those old wives tales?” he chucked again.
“So, your brother is still alive then?”
The standing one chuckled a third time, this time nervously. “That was… a freak accident. That wasn’t…”
The sitting one spoke again. “You know it is true. And even if that were not you cannot deny that every agent we have sent to kill that boy has either vanished completely, or turned up dead without a scar.”
“How do we know the he is the one? He hasn’t moved on us, or even shown he knows of our existence.” The standing many said.
“You would know why if you used your brain for once. All the evidence is there and you damn well know it.” The smooth voiced man snapped. “The creature that is protecting the boy forces our belief.” The silhouetted head turned back to the other man after having glanced at the water. “Even if it forces out belief in some ‘old wives tales’.”
CLANG. CLANG. CLANG. THUD. A loud yell rang out from under the leather awning as the youth there smashed his thumb with the hammer he had been using to pound the metal.Biting back a curse he withdrew the injured digit from the anvil and proceeded to hold it very tightly.
“PEPIN!”  Came from the boy. A youngish girl of around 15 ran from the door of the house and came under the awning and stared at the boy. “Please get the salve. Now.” The boy said through gritted teeth. “Why? What happened?” she responded. He gave an expression that clearly said “Really?” and held out his thumb. Pepin gave a nonsensical sound and ran for the inn across the street. A few moments later a scrawny middle aged man burst through the saloon style doors and roared. “This is the last time I do this for you, you ungrateful little… and why are you are you pounding that hammer so hard ya-“
“Just get over here with the salve will ya!?” the boy interrupted. The innkeeper gave some more choice words as he stormed over. Pepin made sure to keep out of his way. Interrupting him yet again the boy added. “You remember those clasps on the pipes from the latrine? The one right over the main dining area?” The innkeeper’s eyes bulged from their sockets. “You never fixed that! It rained shit on my clients for over a week. I had to pay Louis 20 full pieces of gold to replace the walls the next time someone flushed the toilet! I had to give Louis two whole pints of my best brew to boot! ”
The innkeeper ranted a good two minutes as the blacksmith smeared the cream on his injury.  “You’ve got to be the worst blacksmith I ever had the unfortunate luck to find, Kyle!” slapping the wound to the Kyle’s great pain he returned to the inn in the same manner he had left muttering under his breath about “useless kid” and “makin’ me leave my customers.”
As he passed her Pepin said sweetly. “Thank you, James.” The innkeeper grunted in acknowledgement and went back into his inn. Pepin sidled up to Kyle and said. “Hey Kyle can we to that one place? You‘ve done enough work for today.” She gave him a sweet irresistible smile. Kyle groaned. “Pepin, you know I have to finish this shovel by tomorrow and then I have to work on those pipe clasps in the inn.” Pepin gave a pouty expression. “But, I suppose we can go to the fair.”
When they got to the fair they found an event that James was participating in. he took a hammer and smacked a button sending a peg flying up into a bell. Kyle began to approach but stopped when he felt a cold metal touch his neck. James had noticed the pair by then and the man behind them. He asked.
“Who is this?” the man who had the metal knife began to turn to flee. James caught up to him and promptly kicked him in a rather unpleasant place.  Then he tried to bring the hammer down on the man’s leg, but missed and hit his thumb. The man lay there groaning.
“That’s courtesy of Kyle’s hammer.” James said in reference to Kyle’s broken thumb. Two guards came over and took the assassin away.
Later that night, Kyle heard a crash from the main room. He rose quietly to his feet and drew the concealed sword from where it was hidden behind his cashbox. He quietly crept into the main room and when he got there he saw a man lying on the ground. The man was deathly pale, and didn’t appear to be breathing. An iron knife was clutched in his fist. Kyle rushed over to the man and, laying his sword on the ground, he knelt by the body. The door burst open and Greg came in with the pitchfork. “What is going on?!”

the inciting

this is the beginning of a story i wrote about the future when animals have evolved and become bipedal and sentient. the way it was supposed to be was book 1 was that the ants incited a rebellion because they were given too little land and then book 2 the humans made war on the animals and book 3 the animals made war on the humans. so this is the beginning of Anna's Book, the Inciting.

I woke up feeling refreshed. I fixed my long body hair and yawned, letting the air seep into my mouth between the gaps in my large sharp teeth. Glancing at the clock I noticed there was just enough time for a quick run. I hurriedly pulled on some shorts and a tee shirt, shoved my uniform into my backpack, and left. As I jogged I passed several people I knew and I shouted a hi. Checking my watch I changed direction and headed toward the base. The minute I opened the door I was scooped up in a huge bear hug, or, I guess you could say an eagle hug.
“Anna! Long time no see!” I looked up to see a pair of precision blue eyes, white head feathers, and a wide smiling beak. Peter was a 6’8” humanoid bald eagle. He had on a brown leather jacket and blue jeans. This would have been strange except that I was a 5’10” humanoid wolf. About half the people in the room were likewise evolved animals and most were sentient. Peter put his arm around my shoulder and I smiled in spite of myself.     “Let’s see. The last time I saw you was ...... 6 years ago! When we won the Giants’ war! How have you been? I’ve been great.” Peter went on talking about his adventures over the previous years but I had stopped listening. I was trying to find my brother, Andrew. “Oh and there was this one time-“      “I’d love to catch up but do you know where Andrew is? He’s a-     “Hey look! There’s he is!” Peter told me. I looked in the direction he pointed. There sat my brother in a chair, snoozing. I walked over and shook him hard.      “Huuuuggghhh? Oh hi!” he sat up quickly. “How long was I asleep?”     “12 hours straight man.” A rat climbed up on Andrew’s shoulder. To me he said “hi! My name is Phlin!” he sat up and twitched his little pink nose at me.      “Wait, how do you two know each other?” Peter asked indicating Andrew and me.     “Oh, hi Peter. I’m her brother.” Andrew answered. He was about to say more when a voice rang out from the front of the room.      “Will everyone please take your seats?” The voice came from a middle aged man in a blue uniform with two stars on his shoulder. Peter and Andrew moved to the front and I followed. I sat in a chair with Peter and Andrew on either side of me and looked at the large projector screen. The light dimmed and the man began to speak.     “I am General Anderson. I am going to be giving you all of your assignments.” I rolled my eyes. This was going to be so boring. I pulled out a book and began to read, engrossing myself in the story. I had just gotten to the good part when the general called my name.      “Anna Namrekca, you shall be on a team with Peter Darkstone, Andrew Swettam, and Serpent.” Oh no. I thought, automatically on alert. One word names are only given to praying mantises when they’ve disobeyed orders! “You move out at o six hundred ours. You are all dismissed.”
                                                                              (<1>)

I placed my clothes in the backpack, strapped on my belt with a gun on it, and pulled the backpack on.
“You ready?” Peter asked from my doorway. He had a muscle shirt & shorts on with his backpack and medallion and cross necklace, his sharp beak curved up into a smile.      “Oh uh yeah I suppose.” I replied.      “
When we got to the ship, Peter whistled.
So what do you think this serpent will be like?” Peter asked. “I mean we know he will be a mantis but, we don’t know what else.” I shrugged. “Come on” I replied “let’s go meet him.” I rose from my hard mattress and walked towards him. He bowed overdramatically and announced “Milady.” I chuckled slightly. Then we walked down the hall.“So this is the u.s.s. Bartholomew.” He ran his hand on the underside of the bow. I heard clicking as I can round to the side of the ship. It was short and clipped like the heels of a business woman. As peter and I came round to the hanger we saw a 1’9” mantis. He glanced to the side and saw them . he turned to face them and said in a rough voice.     “Hello. I’m serpent. I’ve had two years in medical and flight classes, and three year in the sniper core. I’ve also had demolitions training.”      “Wow. So this is how you begin you’re conversations? Serpent I presume?” Peter asked, bemused. “Oh and by the way, I will be piloting this mission. Not you. I am officially on the team as pilot.”      “Hmm. Alright then shall we go?” Serpent replied, walking back up the ramp. “Talk about abrupt.” Peter commented before following Serpent. I smiled and walked into the ship too. Once inside I found peter in the pilot’s seat and serpent in the gunner’s chair.      “We ready to go?” Peter asked powering up engines. A door at the far end of the hanger opened and a figure ran toward the ship.      “Wait for me!” Andrew shouted. He ran up the ramp just before it closed Once we were all settled, Peter began to switch controls and power up the ship. I took a deep breath and fingered the small ring that permanently sat on my right hand. It was my good luck ring, given to me by my father before the wars had claimed his, and most of my family's, life. Andrew and I were the only ones left, and when I glanced over at him, I saw him gently running his fingers over the small chain hanging around his neck, the gift my father had given him. Peter slowly pushed in the acceleration, and we shot through the open hanger door into the air.      “I’m uh- I’m going to go check out the hanger.” I slipped into a narrow corridor and then out into the wide hangar. I smiled as I looked down at my tank. This tank and I had been hell together 6 years ago and I was happy to have it safe back in my possession after it was wrecked almost beyond repair. I made my way back into the corridor, but just before I reached the cockpit an explosion rocked the ship. Once I steadied myself I ran for the cockpit.     “What’s going on?” I screamed over the warning light. “We are under fire!” Peter replied. “Ship named the Scragg.”      “That’s Zero’s ship!” Serpent said with disgust.      “Zero?” I asked.     “Another time.” Serpent replied “we gotta get outta here!” I could tell something was bugging him but like he had said he didn’t elaborate.     “Does this have anything to do with that bright red light perhaps?” Andrew asked.     “Yeah. Engine 1 has died and engine 2 is overloaded. This baby is going down.”
     “
“Dang. She was such a pretty bird too.” Peter said glancing at the door. “Ok we got one chance. You three get in Anna’s tank. I’ll open up the hangar door. Then you three drive out of the hangar.”Why are you the one who will open the door?” I asked, curious and afraid for him.      “NO QUESTIONS! NOW MOVE IT!” He shouted. Leaping from his chair he hurried into the corridor and I followed. I ran for the tank while Peter leaped off the pedestal and flew toward the control panel. I activated the remote hatch and slid into the cockpit with Serpent and Andrew directly behind me. Peter turned and looked back at me. I raised my thumb toward him. He smiled slowly, then pushed the button. then all hell broke loose.’s burning hulk, which was still headed straight toward us. There was a screech, followed by a soft sliding sound before the three of us sat back. Then serpent was hit by a sudden shock before crying “No! Peter!”      “Whoo! What a rush!” he shouted as he came in for a landing. He glanced back at the wreckage and grimaced. “That would’ve hurt if I’d been in there.” I looked at him and rolled my eyes. A hot wind blew by, rustling my white fur. Sand came with it that jumped and darted before my eyes before disappearing into the vast expanse around us.     “So...any idea how we find a city ‘round here?” Peter asked. I shrugged and glanced in all directions. I saw nothing and, apparently neither did any of the others.     First the hatch opened, sucking everything inside the hanger out toward the ship with a fury. We fell down toward the ground with more speed than was comfortable. We moved quickly, getting outrselves in the safest positions possible, and braced for impact. We hit, bounced once, bounced twice, and bounced three more times before skidding to a halt in the sand on our side. I lifted my bloody head from the dashboard, quickly taking in that Andrew was unconscious and Serpent was trapped under his restraints. I released my own restrains and opened the hatch. I looked on as the drop ship exploded in one massive fireball.     I smiled. We had survived. Then my smile faded as aI realized the ship was still moving; sliding straight toward us. I slid back down and freed serpent. Then I released Andrew and shook him.      He drowsily lifted his head and binked in confusion, not understanding where he was. I took him by the waist and flung him through the hatch. As soon as he was out I helped Serpent out and and lifted myself up as well. Time seemed to slow as we raced away from the dropship     Then I realized Peter was gone. I stared around in every direction. I saw destroyed ship and smashed tank. Nothing else but sand for as far as the eye can see. The three of us stood and began to look for our high flying friend but to no avail. Just as I sank to my knees in despair something caught my eye. Before I even dared to hope a familiar bird swooped down over our heads.

Once we were, moving, I undid my seatbelt and said.

jake vs stormtroopers.

This is just a little battle i wrote about my star wars oc jedi jake. this is a little bit after the jedi purge when he turned into a bounty hunter.

Jake leaped from behind his hiding place and went for the first stormtrooper. This was wholly unexpected and the trooper crumpled without a fight. Jake turned as the second man prepared to fire and punched a blaster bullet through his gut. He withdrew his primary blaster from behind his back and brought it around before ducking behind the stone, a hail of bolts blasting by him two seconds later. Jake popped his over the wall and shot a few rounds into several more stormtroopers. He watched them fall like rocks before returning to a crouched position.
Jake glanced sideways to notice a rope holding up a large stone which hung just slightly to the left of the bulk of the soldiers. He say back and concentrated, using the force to move the chunk of stone to where the stormtroopers were. They glanced up, unsure of what was happening. Jake used the momentary distraction to fire a shot into the rope, slicing it clean through. Many of the stormtroopers screamed as the rock fell, crushing them. A thick smoke rose up and Jake darted forward taking out more soldiers with another round of lasers.
His gun jammed and he swore, launching it at the nearest stormtrooper, dropping the guy in his tracks. Jake withdrew his secondary gun and took out several more. The smoke was starting to clear but it was still thick enough so that his enemy couldn’t make sense of the situation. It was then that Jake noticed the first man to come out of the mist. They has gotten their sense faster then expected. Jake gave a cocky grin and brought out his light saber. He darted into the fray and hacked down one then another of them until finally he came to the last trooper, the one he had knocked down.
He glared at it and said.
“The dog has come back to it’s master yipping. Tell the emperor it’s his move.” jake said before igniting his jet boots and flying into the distance.
